Primary Gastric Actinomycosis: a Rare Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Actinomycosis is a chronic disease characterized by abscess formation, tissue fibrosis, draining sinuses and ulcers. It is caused by the filamentous, gram-positive anaerobic or microaerophilic bacterial species of the genus Actinomyces. Actinomycosis mainly presents in three forms: cervicofacial (31-65%), abdominopelvic (2036%) and thoracic (15-30%). Abdominal actinomycosis has often been called “one of the greatest imitators in clinical practice”. It often presents as an indolent chronic suppurative process with atypical symptoms that are misdiagnosed as neoplasms and other inflammatory diseases like tuberculosis or Crohn’s disease. There is a predilection for appendix and ileocecal region of the bowel and thus, it can easily mimic colonic adenocarcinoma, intestinal tuberculosis, chronic appendicitis or regional enteritis. When outside the intestine, abdominal actinomycosis generally grows by local spread with rare incidences of haematogenous or lymphatic dissemination. Primary gastric actinomycosis is extremely rare, with only 24 cases reported till date. The rarity of gastric involvement by Actinomyces spp. has been attributed to the high luminal acidity of stomach, as a result of which, the organisms are either killed or their growth is inhibited. We hereby present a case of primary gastric actinomycosis, which to the best of our knowledge, is the first ever report from India.

Vocal Cord Actinomycosis: A Case Report
Introduction: Actinomycosis is a systemic chronic bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces Israelii, an anaerobic organism normally resident in the human mouth. However, the actinomycosis of the larynx is very rare, and only about 15 cases have been reported in the literature so far. Most of the cases reported occurred in patients who had previously undergone radiotherapy for laryngeal cancer...
متن کاملPrimary gastric actinomycosis: report of a case diagnosed in a gastroscopic biopsy
BACKGROUND Primary gastric actinomycosis is extremely rare, the appendix and ileocecal region being the most commonly involved sites in abdominopelvic actinomycosis. Herein, we report a case of primary gastric actinomycosis. The diagnosis was made on microscopic evaluation of gastroscopic biopsy specimens. To the best of our knowledge, this is the third case to be reported in the literature, in...
متن کاملA Case Report of Periapical Actinomycosis of Maxilla
Actinomycosis is a chronic and less common infectious process that established by Actinomyces israilii. Involvement of faciocervical region is more common than thorasic and visceral types and typically involves the angle of mandible and with less occurrence rate the upper jaw may also be involved. Periapical lesions of maxilla that involved in this process by Actinomyces israilii are rare and c...
متن کاملA Case Report of a Metastatic Primary Gastric Lymphoma; Diffuse Large B-Cell or Burkitt Lymphoma?
Introduction: Primary gastric lymphoma (PGL) is a rare tumor, whose differential diagnosis may become complicated without precise immunohistochemistry (IHC) and genetic analysis. Case Presentation: A 33-year-old woman presented with gastric cancer and had undergone gastrectomy without precise IHC and staging in another center. Inappropriate IHC after surgery showed diffuse large B-cell lymphom...
